Dmitry (Mitya) Przhedetsky (Russian: Дмитрий (Митя) Борисович Пржедецкий) pronounced[pshedetski];  (born 15 September 1965) is the founder of a mining consultancy company Rock Cognition Pty Ltd®. Dmitry Przhedetsky is known for his paramount  role in implementation of new mining methods and equipment in Russia and Australia.

Early life and education


Przhedetsky was born in Moscow, USSR in a family representing two dynasties of mining engineers and musicians. His Grandfather Meer (Max Havievich) Przhedetsky was renowned for implementing progressive methods of tunnelling in soft rocks as well as his fundamental knowledge of hydrogeology and dewatering. Dmitry’s Father Boris (Markovich) Przhedetsky holds 11 patents for various types of mining equipment which he invented and successfully implemented throughout his life. Representing the 3rd generation of mining engineers Dmitry Przhedetsky graduated from the Moscow State Mining University (then called the Moscow Mining Institute) and holds a Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering specialised in Underground Mining and Tunnelling.

Amongst other ancestors of Dmitry Przhedetsky one needs to name his Grandfather Konstantin Pankov who was a Battalion Commissar in the 33-rd Army of General Efremov which perished in fierce battles of the WW2 in 1942 near Vyazma.

Professional Career


Upon graduation Dmitry Przhedetsky worked in underground construction and tunnelling in Moscow in the state and privately owned companies. Later he joined a large American group Teledyne in a capacity of the Regional Manager responsible for development of the mining market in the countries of the former USSR.

In 1994 Przhedetsky made a trip to Australia where met with a few people in the mining industry including Professor Frank Roxborough who evaluated his skills and inspired Przhedetsky to try himself in Australian mining.


In 1997 Przhedetsky moves to Sydney and gets involved in many major mining projects in many commodities. Currently Dmitry Przhedetsky, MEng (Mining) FAusIMM, is the Founding Director of Rock Cognition Pty Ltd® –  a Sydney based mining consultancy company. Rock Cognition provides services in selection and optimization of mining methods and equipment; mining equipment development and marketing; efficiency trials; risk assessment; due diligence; feasibility studies and business development. The experience and knowledge base covers a broad range of minerals – from iron ore to salt mining; from underground coal to uranium mining and from quarrying to tunnelling.  Przhedetsky has been responsible for successful implementation of new mining methods and equipment, such as: surface miners for iron ore and salt mining in Australia; 50-tonne underground truck and new generation of underground loaders in Australia; Mitsubishi TBM for soft rocks and Teledyne breakers for gold mining in the former USSR. He has been involved in many major international mining projects and worked in all States and Territories of Australia; New Zealand; New Caledonia; USA; Canada; India; Germany; France; Russia; Ukraine; Kazakhstan; Uzbekistan. Przhedetsky has contributed many articles for the Australian and international mining media covering a broad range of topics – from mine safety to diversion of rivers and creeks for mining operations; from mining methods to roof support; from mining equipment to global consciousness of global problems.

Music


Professional musicians have been represented in Przhedetsky family throughout 4 generations. His Great Grandfather Gregory Brodsky was a conductor and a flutist. Brodsky was the first graduate of the Odessa Conservatorium of Music having completed a degree as a flute player. Later  he graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatory as a conductor and his work was phrased by many prominent Russian classical musicians such as: Genrich Neigauz; Reinhold Glière; Alexander Glazunov. Przhedetsky’s Grandmother Albina Brodskaya had been a singer and a piano player, whilst her Sister Josephine worked as a concertmaster with the famous Russian ballet troupe School Years. Przhedetsky’s Mother Svetlana Pankova occasionally worked as an accompanist in the school where she was a teacher of literature and later a librarian.

Dmitry Przhedetsky has studied music at home, at a music school and upon Graduation as a Mining Engineer he studied a classical guitar at the National University of Arts and jazz at the Gnessin State Musical College. The most remarkable moments in Przhedetsky’s musical education were private lessons with Kamill (Arturovich) Frauchi – the legendary music teacher and intellectual. Przhedetsky also studied the music theory with Alexander (Sergeevich) Sokolov, who later would have become the Russian Minister of Culture and a jazz guitar from Andrei (Vasil’evich) Bodnartchouk who currently leads a few jazz projects in France.

Przhedetsky played in a few bands, such as: “Secret (Moscow)” and “Vodopoi”. A few times Przhedetsky had a professional exposure in music temporarily substituting other musicians in bands and briefly worked as a music teacher. Having kept music as a hobby, Przhedetsky has recorded 2 CDs – “The Beatnik Duckling©” in 1999 and “The Alumni Meeting©” in 2009. His songs were broadcasted in Russia and in the UK. Przhedetsky also contributed a few articles to various guitar magazines.

Literature


In addition to his numerous technical articles Dmitry Przhedetsky has been writing lyrics and short stories. In 1999 his book “Believe your eyes©” was published in Moscow.



Political activism and views


In 1991 during an antidemocratic coup  in Moscow Dmitry Przhedetsky was amongst the defendants of the Russian Parliament House.

Dmitry Przhedetsky supports the awareness of the community on climate change and advocates for green mining.

He supports the view that the religious education would contravene the constitutional (in many countries) separation of state and religion, hence no government funding in these countries is permissible for the religious education.

He also supports the idea of the global citizenship and the inherent responsibility of each individual for finding solutions to global problems. 

While the humankind has been extremely successful in making the greatest geographical, scientific and technological discoveries, the Greatest Humanitarian Discoveries© have been a privilege of just a few individuals.

In the 21st Century we are all responsible for making the Greatest Humanitarian Discoveries©!
